Welcome and Introduction 2. Health Care Reform: Overview, presented by Cheryl Ierna, Commonwealth Connector Health Care Reform is Massachusetts’ plan to reduce the number of people in our state who have no health insurance. There were 372,000 Massachusetts residents without health insurance according to a 2006 state survey. On April 12, 2006, Health Care Reform became law. It promotes shared responsibility for a healthier Massachusetts. Government, employers and citizens must all do their part to expand health coverage. Health Care Reform has already worked to insure thousands of Massachusetts residents. Everyone has a role in making this a healthier Commonwealth. Most Massachusetts residents are now required to have health insurance. The Health Connector can help you learn more about the law and how to get insurance. They can also let you know if you might be exempt from the requirement to get health insurance based on certain circumstances. The presentation will cover the following: - Results, thus far - Overview of employer responsibilities - 2008 updates - How the Connector can assist employees 3. Roundtable Discussion Issues, questions or concerns that you would like to bring before other HR professionals. 4.
